Together, we are building a sustainable future for local news. TEGNA Inc. is seeking a Payroll Processor to support day-to-day payroll operations for 5,500+ U.S.-based employees. This role is part of our Corporate HR Operations & Technology team and is based at WTHR in Indianapolis. This a hybrid role with 2 days of in-office requirement. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience processing payroll in UKG Pro and UKG Pro Workforce Management (WFM), with strong attention to detail, a compliance mindset, and a focus on accuracy and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Process multi-state, biweekly payroll accurately and on schedule using UKG Pro and UKG Pro WFM.
  • Review and audit payroll data including timecards, earnings, deductions, and taxes to ensure compliance and accuracy.
  • Research and resolve payroll discrepancies, employee inquiries, and system issues in a timely manner.
  • Support payroll imports, adjustments, off-cycle payments, and retroactive transactions.
  • Assist with payroll reconciliations, reporting, and documentation to maintain SOX controls and audit readiness.
  • Partner with HR, Finance, and managers to ensure accurate employee data and pay outcomes.
  • Support year-end activities including W-2 validation and distribution.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, reduce manual work, and strengthen payroll controls.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of payroll processing experience, preferably in a multi-state environment.
  • Hands-on experience with UKG Pro and UKG Pro Workforce Management (WFM) required.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll concepts including taxes, garnishments, and deductions.
  • Proficiency in Excel and payroll reporting.
  • High attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
